One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.” — Anthony Robbins

If you have made moves to advance your life, over some years of working within the personal growth and development space, you start to see patterns.

What I mean by that is, you start to realize that all the successful ones, those who achieve personal and professional success, pretty much do the same kind of things. In fact, when you look at them, nearly everyone has 80% of the same systems that they follow.

It’s that old maxim “Don’t reinvent the wheel.”

At the same time, you also see that the people who struggle, the ones who aren’t living the life they deserve are mostly making the same mistakes. And it’s really sad because these common mistakes can easily be avoided.

Of course, you have to be aware of them first.

That’s why today, I’m going to share ten things super successful people won’t do when it comes to achieving success in life.

One: They won’t lose focus. Successful people don’t lose focus, not Bill Gates nor will Aliko Dangote dare it. Their success will soon become history if they dare, they will not want that to happen, I’m sure.

Successful people stay focused on the big picture. They won’t veer off course, they won’t try to be a “jack of all trades.” They are mostly known for one thing, the only thing they do best. They explore their area of expertise and emerge the world best.

“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, which is the way great spiritual giants are produced.” — Swami Vivekananda

Two: They won’t dwell on problems. Successful people don’t exert their energy on problems, they focus on solutions. They don’t get stucked with things they cannot change or influence. That’s the reason successful people are never stagnated.

They understand that what they focus on determine their feelings, which ultimately determine their performance. Rather than focusing on their problems, they focus on the solution.

Three: They won’t give up. Successful people won’t die in the fight, they understand they need to fight another day, yet, they won’t give up the fight. That’s the secret ordinary people don’t understand.

While some folks number their challenges, lose their fighting power, doubt their chances of success and give up too quickly, successful people stay on their course, change their strategies, call for help and keep fighting, until they succeed. Tenacity is one key attribute of successful people.

“Unless you have a lot of passion about what you do, you’re not going to survive. You’re going to give it up. So you’ve got to have an idea, or a problem or a wrong that you want to right that you’re passionate about, otherwise, you’re not going to have the perseverance to stick it through. I think that’s half the battle right there.” ~ Steve Jobs

Four: They won’t live in the past. We’ve screwed up at some points in our lives – we were either too fast or too slow. We either took the wrong step or made the wrong investment. We either loved the wrong person or turned an amazing offer down.

The truth is, we all have things in our past that can hurt our future if we allow them. Successful people don’t dwell on that pesky stuff – they don’t keep regrets, they don’t keep hurts and they don’t keep making the same mistakes.

The only thing to pick from the past is to learn from your errors and make better decisions. You can as well open your record of accomplishment, set more challenging goals and beat your records. Otherwise, the past has become useless.

Five: They won’t feel the world owes them anything. Successful people don’t feel the world owes them, rather, they believe in merit. They believe more in hard work than good luck, which explains why they are always innovative – thinking of what next to do and how best they can do it.

Six: They won’t lose their gut. Life is hard-hitting and the toughest survives. One key factor that separates successful people from others is mental toughness. Great and successful people are daring, they are bold and undaunted. They embrace challenges and fight their way through. Others are simply fraidy-cats!

“Lose your mind and you’re ruined. Lose your gut and you’re dead!” ~ Unknown

Seven: They won’t hang around negative people. Negativity epitomises nothing, and when it gets multiplied by anything, the result will always be nothing. Deleterious people will bring you down to nothing, eventually, and that’s unacceptable by those with great dreams.

Negative mindset robs off, and you know the maxim: you’re the average of the fifth person you walk with.

Eight: They won’t expect immediate results. “Things take time,” you know the old maxim, right? That’s right, successful people understand that as well.

To become successful at anything, patient is key; a lot of it is required. This is where unsuccessful people get it wrong – they can’t stay long enough on a course, they veer off. They get discouraged and stops trying.

Nine: They won’t say “yes” to everything. Successful people have mastered the art of saying no without crossing the line. They diplomatically reject what’s not in alignment with their dreams. They know the difference between opportunity and distraction.

Successful people prioritise – they differentiate between four important success factors – urgent, important, not urgent, and not important.

Ten: They won’t fight change. Successful people understand change, its effect and influence. They also understand its process. So they anticipate and take maximum advantage of it.

They don’t fight change; they call for it, they embrace it, they leverage on it.

I think it’s cool I share this amazing quote to end this post:

“If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you’ll achieve the same results.” Anthony Robbins
